Being German, I certainly prefer lasting performance over flimsy throw-away items, and this machine looks and feels like it will stand the test of time. It is loud but this doesn't bother me at all. I do find that I have to cut the fruit into smaller wedges...whole apples, in spite of what's advertised on the box, do NOT fit down the spout. Still, a very minor point. I highly recommend this machine...for the price, you can't beat it. And clean-up takes all of 5 minutes if you're thorough. Assembly was a snap after unpacking the box. While the juicer is mostly plastic, its high grade plastic and looks sharp on the counter. The biggest differences between the Breville and the Jack LaL... juicer are: 1) size, 2) cleanup, and 3) noise. The Breville is smaller (but juices just as much), MUCH easier to clean (the Breville mesh screen quickly snaps in and out, while the other one requires a special tool to unscrew the screen), and is louder than the Jack LaL juicer.
